Why me?

It's not just you. Dry skin around the eyes is a very common condition. Most people experience it at some point in their life. It’s usually caused by dehydration, poor diet and aging.

Causes of dry skin around eyes

Dry skin around the eyes can be caused by environmental conditions and other factors. Some of these causes are:

  • Aging. As you age, the skin around your eyes becomes thinner and more fragile, which makes it more susceptible to damage from wind, sun, and other environmental factors.

  • Poor skincare routine. If you're not properly cleaning your face before bed every night (or if you're wearing makeup every day), that could cause clogged pores that lead to eczema or blepharitis (an inflammation of the eyelids). The same goes for using harsh cleansers on your face—they could irritate already delicate areas like around your eyes!

  • Sun exposure. The sun's UV rays will dry out any part of the body they touch; in addition to exposing yourself directly by going outside without protection or spending time near windows during the day (especially during summer months), excessive heat can also contribute to chapped skin around your eyes due to air conditioning units blowing hot air into rooms where people are sitting for long periods at a time (such as offices).

Dry skin around eyes is caused by various factors, such as;

The air in many cities is extremely dry, especially during winter months. When you breathe in this air, it can cause your skin to become dehydrated and flaky.

Another common cause of dry skin around your eyelids is aging. As you get older, your body produces less oil than it used to when you were younger. This lack of oil makes your skin more prone to becoming irritated by environmental factors such as cold weather or windy conditions.

Many individuals do not wash their face regularly enough which will result in clogged pores caused by buildup over time that may lead directly back down into those little crevices where sweat glands lie close together under our nose (or cheeks). This problem becomes much worse if they don't moisturize after washing because then there's nothing left behind but dead cells which clog up even faster than before!

Environmental conditions

Factors such as extreme cold and heat can also cause your eyelids and under-eye area to dry out. If you live in a very humid area, invest in a humidifier to lock in the moisture.

If you're trying to find ways of preventing dry skin around eyes, it may help to limit your exposure to harsh environmental conditions. If possible, avoid spending time outside during the harshest parts of the day (for example, if you work at night). You could also use an umbrella while walking outside or keep yourself covered with scarves when you're out in strong winds. When possible, try using shade when working outdoors (although this isn't always practical).

Dry skin around eyes can be a major annoyance, but it’s also one of the easiest things to fix. Just remember to keep your eyes hydrated by using a moisturizing eye cream at night and drinking plenty of water during the day. If dryness persists, talk with your doctor about prescription options like hydrocortisone cream or ointment that might work better for you than over-the-counter products do.
